Our Story

From the Military to the Community

After retiring from the U.S. Air Force on April 1, 2011, Dr. Peterson began working around the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex providing temporary eye care services at different clinics. He enjoyed helping patients, but constantly traveling from one location to another proved frustrating. GPS directions often led him to the wrong places, and he found himself wishing he could care for patients in one consistent location.

An Unexpected Opportunity

That opportunity arrived unexpectedly in the mail.

Dr. Peterson received a card from Amber Dorsey that asked whether he would be open to helping a brand-new vision care practice get started. He called the number, scheduled a meeting, and shared his professional background and experience. After a dinner conversation at a local restaurant, he was invited to join the team.

The Very First Exam

When Dr. Peterson began, the office was still under construction—it had previously been a beauty shop. There were no finished walls, no floors, and no permanent equipment yet. His very first patient was the Chief of Staff of the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, who flew in from China specifically for that exam. Using only his portable equipment, Dr. Peterson completed the eye exam in a space that was still taking shape.

That moment marked the beginning of what would become Peterson Vision Center—a practice built on experience, adaptability, and a commitment to patient care from day one.
